Overview
Flight Monitor is a personal flight log built by Velorion Technologies. This policy explains what the app collects, what it doesn't, and what you control. Plain language, no surprises.
What Flight Monitor does
Flight Monitor records the flights you take. It uses your phone's GPS to capture the route, altitude, and speed of each trip. Every recorded flight stays on your device unless you opt in to cloud sync.
What we collect on your device
The app stores the following locally on your phone, in a private database that only Flight Monitor can read:
- GPS coordinates, altitude, and speed of recorded flights
- Flight metadata you enter manually (flight number, airline, aircraft, seat, cabin class, notes)
- App settings (theme, units, debug toggles)
This data never leaves your device unless you sign in to cloud sync or use the export feature.
What we collect about the app itself
Flight Monitor uses Firebase Crashlytics to receive automatic crash reports. A crash report contains:
- iOS version, device model, and app version
- A stack trace describing where the crash happened
- A pseudonymous installation identifier (no name, no email, no IP)
Crash reports do not include your flights, your location history, or any other personal content. Crash reporting is enabled in release builds. You can disable it in Settings.
Flight Monitor uses Firebase Analytics to count anonymous events such as "app opened," "flight recorded," and "screen viewed." Analytics events do not contain personal information and cannot be tied back to you.
What we do not collect
- We do not sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
- We do not share your flight history with advertisers or third parties.
- We do not run third-party advertising SDKs.
- We do not use trackers in your trip data.
Permissions
Location (When In Use & Always). Required to record GPS coordinates during a flight. The "Always" option lets recording continue when the screen is off or the app is backgrounded — useful on long-haul flights.
Notifications. Used to show a persistent banner during active recording so you can confirm tracking is running.
Motion & Fitness (optional, future). Used by the optional turbulence-detection feature.
You can revoke any permission at any time in iOS Settings. The app handles missing permissions gracefully.
Cloud sync (optional)
If you sign in to a cloud account, your flights are uploaded to Supabase. The data is stored under your user ID, protected by row-level security so only your account can read it. You can sign out at any time, which stops syncing without deleting local data.
Gmail import (future feature)
A future version may offer to scan your Gmail for past flight confirmations and import them as historical trips. This will be:
- Opt-in only — never automatic
- Read-only — Flight Monitor cannot send, delete, or modify email
- Processed on-device where possible
- Limited to flight-related senders (airlines, booking confirmations)
- Revocable at any time from your Google account settings
We will update this policy before that feature ships.
Children
Flight Monitor is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
You can:
- Delete any flight at any time from the app
- Delete the entire app and database with a single tap (uninstall the app)
- Export your flights as GPX or KML
- Disable analytics and crash reporting in Settings
- Sign out of cloud sync at any time
- Request a copy or deletion of any cloud-synced data by emailing the address below
Security
Local data is stored in iOS's app sandbox, accessible only to Flight Monitor. Cloud-synced data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored under row-level security policies. No system is perfectly secure — if we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you within 72 hours of detection.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
